Operational Excellence for the Warfighter

Introduction

By LTG Carroll F. Pollett, Director, Defense Information Systems Agency and Commander, Joint Task Force-Global Network Operations

DISA, a Combat Support Agency, provides and engineers command and control capabilities and enterprise infrastructure to continuously operate and defend a global net-centric enterprise for joint warfighters, National level leaders, and other mission and coalition partners across the full spectrum of operations.  Our mission today is against the backdrop of the rapid evolution of information technology and the varied, asymmetric threats facing our nation.

The challenges ahead of us cannot be met only by developing and fielding technical solutions. We must also operationalize the enterprise capabilities we provide and defend with our Service and Agency partners.  We must always realize that we are in no fail situation, and our networks, capabilities, and services must always be on.

DISA has begun to lay the foundation for a unified services environment for information sharing.  This will be an interoperable platform of networks, computing, storage, and services accessible by users globally.  It will provide secure, scalable, on demand services to promote and support information sharing at all levels.  This approach will provide our customers the agility and reliability they need to meet the challenges we face.

Together, we have many opportunities.  The DISA team is up to the challenges.  Our priorities are command and control and information sharing, while operating and defending the cyberspace enterprise.  But we can not do this alone.  We must strengthen and leverage our partnership with  industry if we are to succeed in effectively supporting our warfighters and National Leadership.
