Roger Thorstenson

Director of DoDIN Modernization

Deputy CIO for Information Enterprise (DCIO (IE)), Department of Defense

Roger Thorstenson is the Director of DoDIN Modernization for the Deputy CIO for Information Enterprise (DCIO (IE)). He is responsible for DoD Information Network (DoDIN) Modernization initiatives, integration and synchronization of Joint Information Environment (JIE) initiatives, and oversight of JIE Strategic Communications.

Mr. Thorstenson has previously held several positions on the DoD CIO staff including Acting Principal Director for DCIO (IE), Special Assistant to DCIO (IE), Director for Strategy and Integration, Lead for Strategic Planning and Performance Measurement, and Lead for Information Support Plan Guidance and Development. Prior to government civilian service, Mr. Thorstenson served in the U.S. Navy for over twenty-eight years. A Surface Warfare Officer, he served on variety of surface ships and also completed assignments at the Defense Information Systems Agency and at the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Command, Control, Communication and Intelligence.

Mr. Thorstenson was born in Waukon, IA. He holds a BS in Computer Science from the University of Idaho and a MS in Computer Science from the Naval Post Graduate School. His is also a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College and the Armed Forces Staff College.
