Navy awards $18M modification for Aegis testing

The U.S. Navy has awarded an $18 million contract modification to Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Training for additional Aegis Combat System testing. The tests will support modernization efforts for cruiser and destroyer systems.
The Aegis Combat System is an integrated naval weapons system designed to simultaneously attack land targets, submarines and surface ships while implementing defense to protect the fleet against aircraft and missiles.
Work is expected to be completed by Aug. 2014.
