The Defense Information Systems Agency has awarded Technica a $9 million contract to furnish Symantec Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), the company said March 12.
Under the agreement, Technica will supply Symantec’s NetBackup platform to the Defense Department in a SaaS model, the company said.
Consolidating and managing software licenses and maintenance under one contract per software contractor ensures DISA and the DOD will be able to avoid duplication of IT assets and functionality and acquisition of excess software, the company said. The Saas model will promote centralized visibility of software assets and improve inventory configuration management and control.
Technica's team includes Symantec and Carahsoft. Technica, as the prime contractor, will provide Symantec NetBackup SaaS using the Symantec ExSP program, while Carahsoft will serve as the ExSP Distributor and Technica is the Authorized Symantec ExSP. DISA will provide the NetBackup service to its employees and authorized customers, and report usage back to Technica.
Symantec's NetBackup Platform with V-Ray technology simplifies and unifies the protection of information-driven enterprises by automating advanced technologies and standardizing operations across applications, platforms, and virtual and physical environments, the company said.
The contract was awarded by DISA's Enterprise Services Directorate.
