Joint Staff's Bowman nominated for rank of lieutenant general

President Barack Obama has nominated Army MG Mark S. Bowman for the rank of lieutenant general, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said in a Sept. 13 Defense Department news release.

Bowman is currently director of Command, Control, Communications and Computers for the Joint Staff CIO (J-6 CIO), at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., the announcement said. As such, he is responsible for developing C4 capabilities, conducting analysis and assessments, furnishing Joint and Combined Force C4 guidance, and evaluating C4 requirements, plans, programs and strategies for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Before that, he served as director of Architecture, Operations, Networks, and Space, Office of the Army CIO/G-6, and was responsible for helping establish and maintain strategy, policy, and guidance to build, integrate, communicate, and facilitate the service's network, known as LandWarNet, in a joint and coalition environment.
