White House officials told a small group of top U.S. defense executives at a June 13 meeting that they wouldn’t be getting any specific details on the federal government's plans for the automatic budget cuts known as sequestration, said sources familiar with the meeting, reports Defense News.
The unpublicized meeting between the defense industry executives and Office of Management and Budget officials gave the executives no specific take-away information, the story said. None is likely to be available to industry until after the presidential election, the OMB officials said.
The meeting was requested by Aerospace Industries Association President Marion Blakey. Blakey and Lockheed Martin CEO Robert Stevens have publicly expressed the need for details about how the cuts would be implemented, if they take effect as scheduled Jan. 2, so that industry can adjust its workforce, the story said.
