Senate instructs DOD to keep close tabs on network flow data records

The Defense Department needs to improve its ability to gather and analyze network flow data records, says the Senate Armed Services Committee, reports FierceGovernmentIT.

In the fiscal 2013 National Defense Authorization Act (S. 3254), the committee has instructed the DOD CIO to improve the department's capabilities to handle flow data records, and "to potentially make this technology available for the defense of the country voluntarily through the Tier 1 Internet Service Providers," the story said.

The task before DOD is to develop an "early warning and attack assessment function" that is capable of detecting cyberattacks in early stages, the story said.
