Army estimates NIE drives $6B savings

The Army calculates that its semi-annual Network Integration Evaluation has produced $6 billion in savings through the cancellation of poorly performing systems that fall short of objectives, reports Michael Hoffman at the DOD Buzz blog.

Army officials recently cited the figure for lawmakers when questions were raised about how much the service is spending to run the NIE as an integral part of its continuing network modernization efforts, the story said.

The price tag to establish and operate the NIE amounts to about $600 million, the story said.
