The Air Force is planning to launch its second Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) satellite May 3 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla., reports Defense News.
Meanwhile, the Air Force and Lockheed Martin have begun negotiations for a potential $3 billion purchase of the fifth and sixth AEHF satellites, the story said.
The Defense Department is reviewing its future satellite communications requirements to determine whether it will purchase more than six AEHF satellites, the story said. The AEHF satellite constellation is designed to furnish secure communication at data speeds 10 times faster than the existing Milstar constellation.
