Cyber threats emerging: AESA radar said vulnerable to cyberattack

As the United States reorients its forces to the Western Pacific, its strategy is already jeopardized by newly emerging cyber threats; for example, one key surveillance and targeting tool, the long-range, active, electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, could be vulnerable to cyberattack, Aviation Week reports.

The article quotes a veteran tecchnology expert as saying that from a cyber standpoint, AESA has introduced new vulnerabilities.

However, Lt. Gen. Herbert Carlisle, Air Force deputy chief of staff for operations, has said the threat can be mitigated by sensor fusion on an aircraft and by the radar’s electronic agility, the story added.
