Argus One airship undergoes initial testing

The World Surveillance Group has completed an initial demonstration of its Argus One unmanned airship at the Energy Department’s Nevada Test Site, company officials said Jan. 17.

The mid-altitude, lighter-than-air unmanned airship is designed to hover above the earth's surface for several days at a time during which it would operate up to 30 pounds of high technology sensors, cameras and electrical equipment, according to a company statement.

The demonstration is the first in a series planned for 2012, the officials said. The Defense Department is sponsoring the demonstrations, according to media reports.
