The Defense Department is among the federal agencies singled out by the Government Accountability Office for having trouble handling its cybersecurity workforce and determining the workforce's composition and responsibilities, reports Camille Tuutti in Federal Computer Week.
In 2010 DOD had more than 97,000 information assurance positions, but about 9,000 of these positions were unfilled, GAO found in a recent audit.
GAO investigators also noted that the Commerce and Defense departments require cybersecurity personnel to get certifications and meet continuing education requirements, while some other agencies have less stringent requirements.
