In the two months since its launch, the Defense Department’s research arm has awarded seven contracts to nontraditional contractors through a fast track program and hopes to award scores more over the course of its first year, reports Dawn Lim at Wired’s Danger Room blog.
The Defense Advanced Projects Research Agency’s Cyber Fast Track Program is constructed to allow rapid awarding of small, short-term contracts for assistance in identifying potential gaps in information networks that need to be plugged. The average time for the awards made so far is a week.
DARPA hopes to compile a variety of security fixes to use to protect military networks as they become increasingly more complex in the cyber defense race.
