Two-legged robot almost ready for military duty

Protection Ensemble Test Mannequin would test chemical protection clothing

Boston Dynamics, the company that developed the quadrupedal BigDog robot designed to carry troops' gear, is putting the finishing touches on a two-legged, headless robot that goes by the name Petman, reports Spencer Ackerman at Wired's Danger Room blog.

The Protection Ensemble Test Mannequin weighs about 180 pounds and has a blinking red light where its head should be.

The company developed Petman, which can simulate human physiological conditions such as sweating, as a way for the Army to test chemical protection clothing before issuing it to soldiers.
