Boeing announced Sept. 13 that it has won a $1.1 billion Air Force satellite contract, which makes the win the fourth major satellite contract the defense contractor has landed in the past two years, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The Wideband Global Satcom satellites – the essential components of the Defense Department’s high-capacity communications system – take more than four years to build and offer U.S. military services in far-flung corners of the globe high-definition video, radio communications and data services.
The terms of the latest agreement call for Boeing to build the seventh and part of the eighth satellite.
