AeroVironment has developed a quadrotor vertical take-off and landing small unmanned aircraft system named Shrike that can perch and stare while its high-resolution camera gathers video, reports Graham Warwick at
Aviation Week's Ares Blog.
The battery-powered Shrike, which weighs only five pounds and fits in a backpack, is the product of four years of work under the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's Stealth Persistent Perch and Stare program, the blog states.
A flyer on a table outside the press briefing room at the AUVSI show held in August in Washington provided specific details.
