The Navy says it plans to join forces with the Army to purchase a medium-sized, unmanned helicopter that might be operational in five years, reports Flightglobal.
An agreement between the two military services bundles requirements for the Navy’s medium-range maritime unmanned aircraft system with the Army’s medium-range, multipurpose vertical take-off and landing system.
The Navy’s goal is to field the unmanned helicopter by fiscal year 2018, but it will consider proposals to deliver an “early operational capability” two years ahead of that schedule, according to a request for information published in late July.
