Thales Communications has received a contract for an unspecified amount from prime contractor General Dynamics C4 Systems to begin low-rate initial production of the Rifleman Radio, company officials said Aug. 3.
The AN/PRC-154 Rifleman Radio, which is being developed as part of the Defense Department Joint Tactical Radio System Handheld, Manpack and Small Form Fit program, is a lightweight, body-worn radio that can extend the tactical network to dismounted soldiers on the battlefield.
In keeping with government requirements for multiple qualified sources when full-rate production begins, both Thales and General Dynamics will produce a total of 6,250 Rifleman Radios through the LRIP contract.
