Army SUGVs to benefit from waveform enhancement

Additional work introduces telemetry operations domain and mode

The U.S. military has successfully completed a test to verify an enhancement to the Soldier Radio Waveform designed to meet the Army’s need for a simultaneous control and video feed from small unmanned ground vehicles, said officials with the Joint Program Executive Office for the Joint Tactical Radio System Aug. 2.

The achievement is noteworthy because the enhancement introduces the telemetry operations domain and mode to the current version of SRW 1.01.1, and also adds improvements to the performance and functionality of the core waveform, JPEO JTRS officials said.

The enhancements will enable users to control small unmanned ground vehicles and also to download imagery from them -- an improvement done solely with software without changes to the hardware, they said.
