The Defense Department released May 16 a comprehensive guide for using open-source and open-standards technology to foster the development and reuse of software throughout the U.S. military, reports InformationWeek.
The guide, “Open Technology Development: Lessons Learned and Best Practices for Military Software,” is designed for both government and contractor personnel and is available for download on the Scribd website.
The guide includes guidelines and best practices, and it urges DOD developers to use open source to develop software whenever possible in place of proprietary approaches.
