Raven UAV falls short for Marines

Two Marine battalions in Iraq have found fault with AeroVironment's small Raven spy plane as a platoon- and company-level tool, reports Spencer Ackerman of Danger Room.

The Marines reported problems flying the Raven in cities where electromagnetic signals and buildings interfered with its its operation, and they said that they were at times so concerned with losing it that they opted not to deploy it.

They still consider the hand-launched Ravens valuable, but believe they can be improved to provide better quality persistent intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.
