Critical functions within the soon-to-be-defunct Joint Forces Command will be shifted to areas in the Defense Department, writes Jared Serbu for Federal News Radio.
While the formal transfer of functions to designated commands will be conducted by the end of August 2011, the physical moves of the reassignments will be completed by March 2012, DOD said in a press release.
JFCOM is being terminated in an effort to streamline the DOD management structure under the direction of Defense Secretary Robert Gates and will save about $400 million per year, according to the media outlet.
