U.S. law enforcement agencies are investigating the possiblity that a worldwide hacking collective known as Anonymous has plans to disrupt activities at the Marine Corps Base at Quantico, Va., in protest over the rough treatment of Army Pfc. Bradley Manning, a suspect in the Wikileaks scandal, reports Joseph Menn at FT.com.
Members of the amorphous group of worldwide hackers have been discussing plans on public file-sharing sites to target the Quantico prison over Manning's treatment, which his attorney describes as unjustifiable conditions, the story states.
The alleged plan of cyberattack consists of an effort to "harass staff at MCB Quantico Brig to the point of frustration" by instituting a "complete communications shutdown of the facilities' Internet pages and phone links," according to correspondence on publicly accessible document-sharing sites.
