DOD social media rules might be here to stay
One-year extension might be followed by permanent issuance

The Defense Department has reauthorized for another year existing social media guidelines which were set to expire this month, reports Danger Room’s Spencer Ackerman.

Deputy Defense Secretary William Lynn issued a Directive-Type Memorandum Feb. 25 which sets forth responsible use guidelines for Internet-based capabilities, including social media, for all defense components and users of the Non-Classified IP Router Network.
The extension of existing policy might give way to permanent issuance of policy that grants access and use of social media as an integral part of DOD communications, officials said.
