Army puts smart phones to the test

Cultural, security challenges must be resolved before distribution

The Army is awaiting the results of various six-to-eight-month smart phone technology pilot projects before it will make a judgment on whether some or all soldiers will carry such technology with them, reports Army News Service.

At this time, successes with smart phone technology are more evident in training environments rather than the operational environments, Lt. Gen. Michael Vane, director of the Army Capabilities Integration Center, said in a DOD Live Bloggers Roundtable Feb. 24.

The Army also is working to resolve various cultural and security challenges before making a final determination on the matter.
