Army missile defense to get boost under $450M award

Five-year award will assist Missile Defense Initiatives Support III program

SGIS, a San Diego-based government contractor, will provide scientific, engineering and technical assistance to the Army’s space and missile defense program under a five-year contract that could be worth as much as $450 million.

The contract from the Army Space and Missile Defense Command / Army Forces Strategic Command supports the Space and Missile Defense Initiatives Support III program.

The primary focus of the contract will be to support functional areas including vision statements and doctrine; development of architectures; and program support.

As a result, SGIS will provide scientific, engineering and technical assistance for the program’s space, missile defense, global strike and information operations. It also covers command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance and homeland security, according to a company announcement made Sept. 22.

Specifically, SGIS will provide services in areas such as planning, development, fielding documentation, modeling and simulation, system analysis and integration, integrated logistics support and strategy development.

Other services SGIS might provide in the future include general operations support such as exercise planning and execution, training and Blue Force tracking, homeland security, space operations, quick response, as well as planning, programming, budgeting and execution services.

SGIS will be supporting various organizations under this contract including the Strategic Command, Northern Command, Naval Network and Space Operations Command, Air Force Space Command, Ground Based Mid-Course Missile Defense and the Joint National Integration Center.
