A $15.5 million contract awarded to Northrop Grumman will continue radar development as part of the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye Program, according to Washington Technology, a Defense Systems sister publication.
A proof-of-concept trade study focuses on the design and testing of an advanced high gain frequency electronically-scanned array for the Navy battle management aircraft. The Hawkeye passed initial operational testing and was approved for full-rate production by the Naval Air Systems Command in February 2013.
The Advanced Hawkeye would expand battle space awareness by delivering battle management, theater air and missile defense and multiple sensor fusion capabilities.
Radar development is expected to be completed by November 2015.
Northrup Grumman also won a $31 million contract modification on Aug. 29 for the first production lot under the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye Program.
