DISA consolidates networks to support virtualization

The Defense Information Systems Agency is consolidating several unclassified and classified networks into one that serves the agency around the world, Federal News Radio reported. DISA is also rolling out a limited implementation of a wireless network for its campus at Fort Meade, Md.

In an interview with the network David Bennett, CIO for DISA, said full wireless capability for the unclassified network at Fort Meade is expected by May 2014. "It will give us greater capability, reduce cost of operating the environment and ensures that we are applying security consistent fashion across the enterprise," Bennett said.

The network consolidation is part of a larger virtualization plan to support thin client mobility.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!! The DISA CIO should meet w/low level contractors to find out where DISA really is! We're still trying to put memory upgrades in systems ordered to be completed in 2008! Wireless...increased efficiencies...lower costs... SURE! In corporate America. Only in the DoD can a Portfolio manager approve and fund a project for 600 hours work and expect it to be accomplished before 2020 because no actual staff were hired to complete the new project work. It was just dumped on contract staff w/an existing backlog of 2-3 years. Seriously, I can't stop laughing. OMG! My sides hurt!!!! Air! I need air!!!! Whose model are they following? HUD? You know, where everyone dies and no one is hired to replace them and a project manager is thrown in charge of 6-10 projects they can't possibly competently oversee since their primary role was just assigned to 'customer support'? OMG! now my cheeks hurt!!!! I know!!! Let's mandate EVERYONE be PMP certified so we can TOTALLY ignore every best practice proven worldwide but say we're well within scope of vaporware...... air....please GOD, air....
