Navy cancels East Coast IT event, but will attend joint warfighting conference

The Department of the Navy (DON) has canceled its East Coast 2013 information technology conference in Virginia Beach “due to budget and travel restrictions,” reports the DON CIO website. This follows the prior cancellation in January of its West Coast conference typically held in conjunction with the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association’s (AFCEA) West conference and exhibition in San Diego.

The DON CIO office says that some of the East Coast 2013 sessions will be offered virtually through Defense Connect Online (DCO).

In related news, the Navy says that it will support the AFCEA/U.S. Naval Institute Joint Warfighting Conference scheduled for May 14-16, 2013, at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

According to a statement on the DON CIO website, “Several senior DON and DoD leaders are scheduled to appear as speakers and panel participants. Local commands are encouraged to attend, with appropriate command approval, when no travel costs will be incurred.”
