ViaSat wins Navy MIDS LTV cryptographic module contract

ViaSat has won a $34 million contract from the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command to deliver a logical cryptographic module to be integrated into a variety of Multifunctional Information Distribution System Low Volume Terminal (MIDS LTV) hardware variants, the company said February 4.

Under the contract, ViaSat will design, develop, and produce the module for MIDS LVT Block Upgrade 2, the company said.

ViaSat also will produce 10,000 logical cryptographic modules for retrofit of all MIDS-LVT hardware in service at the conclusion of the development, the company said. The company's cryptographic technology uses commercial, off-the-shelf components.

MIDS-LVT terminals provide secure, high capacity, jam resistant, digital data and voice communications for Navy, Marines Corps, Army, and foreign tactical aircraft, as well as shipboard and ground-based air control personnel.
