ITT Exelis receives FMS order for tactical comms equipment

ITT Exelis has received a $25 million order to furnish a wide range of communications equipment to an international customer through a Foreign Military Sales program contract, the company said Jan. 18.

Through the order, ITT Exelis will provide VHF base stations and vehicular systems to support the Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System (SINCGARS), the company said. SINCGARS gives secure VHF voice and data communications capability to tactical units.

The award also includes the company's Spearhead VHF handheld radios, unit and intermediate level spares, installation services and field service representative support.

The Spearhead VHF portable handheld tactical radio gives dismounted soldiers frequency-hopping voice and packet data with integrated Global Positioning System technology in a lightweight package that works with SINCGARS.

The award was coordinated through FMS by the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. The award is part of an FMS indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract awarded to Exelis by CECOM in 2008. So far Exelis has received approximately $451 million in orders under the IDIQ contract.
