Northrop, ITT Exelis team on Navy next-gen jammer quest

Northrop Grumman and ITT Exelis are partnering to offer a viable system for the Navy’s Next Generation Jammer (NGJ) program during its technology demonstration phase, the companies said Nov. 1.

The Navy’s NGJ will fly on the EA-18G Growler electronic attack aircraft. The jammer's purpose is to suppress and defeat enemy integrated air defense systems, and also to disrupt and disable enemy ground-based communications capabilities.

The collaboration will enable the two partners to integrate the best of their independently developed subsystems and components into an interoperable system to control the electromagnetic spectrum, the companies said.

The two companies have been involved in electronic warfare and airborne electronic attack technological development since the 1960s, they said.
