Cubic to develop next-gen one shot sniper system

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has awarded Cubic Defense Applications a $6 million contract to develop a next-generation version of the one shot crosswind and range measurement system that will provide ballistic aim point offsets in the shooter’s riflescope sight, company officials said Oct. 23.

The system is suitable for mounting on the rifle or the spotter-scope to enable military snipers to rapidly hit their targets at maximum effective ranges of weapons more accurately under crosswind conditions, the officials said.
 
Cubic, which is the prime contractor on DARPA's One Shot XG program, is teamed with Trex Enterprises, also of San Diego, to develop and test a prototype system, the officials said. If the system is successful, it could lead to delivery of 10 additional systems within 15 months, they said.
 
Trex will develop the crosswind measurement algorithm, which is the fundamental key to the success of the program, while Cubic will furnish the electro-optic and laser designs, the officials said.
