Logos nabs Navy persistent ground surveillance contract

Editor's Note: The Navy signed a $111.8 million contract with Logos Technologies to provide 22 Kestrels (8 operational systems, 12 spares and 2 testing and development units), the company said Oct. 1. 

The Navy has awarded Logos Technologies a $58 million contract for the Kestrel wide-area persistent ground surveillance system, the Defense Department announced Sept. 21.

The scope of work covers 19 Kestrel systems, integration services, and field support and training. Kestrel is an imaging payload designed for aerostats that remain aloft for extended periods of time gathering data.

About two-thirds of the work will be performed in the contintental United States and the other approximately one-third performed in Afghanistan. 
 
The award was made under a Phase III Small Business Innovation Research Project titled "Wide Area Video Image Storage Techniques,” DOD said. The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division in Lakehurst, N.J., is the contracting activity.
