Army, contractors step up efforts to field small armed UAVs

The Army and its industry partners are stepping up efforts to field tactical unmanned aircraft systems that can strike enemy targets, reports Aviation Week.

Textron Defense Systems recently demonstrated refinements to its tube-launched, warhead-equipped, small, expendable quad-level BattleHawk UAV with test flights at Socorro, N.M., the story said.

Meanwhile, AeroVironment received a contract modification raising the value of an Army contract announced last September for its Switchblade tube-launched, lethal, small UAS to $10 million, the story said.
