DOD expands voluntary cyber info-sharing program

The Defense and Homeland Security departments have expanded a key cybersecurity and information assurance pilot program begun in 2011 to allow all defense industrial base companies that might be eligible for the program to participate in it, DOD officials said in a May 11 announcement.

The DOD’s Voluntary Cyber Security and Information Assurance Program was established to help safeguard sensitive DOD information that is stored on unclassified information systems used by defense industrial base companies, the announcement said.

In addition to expanding eligibility to participate in the program, DOD also will offer enhanced cybersecurity services to all participants.
