Air Mobility Command to navigate with digital flight charts

The Air Force's Air Mobility Command (AMC) plans to take delivery of tablet computers capable of displaying digital flight charts in April, Gen. Raymond Johns, AMC commander, said in an internal message, Bob Brewin reported in Nextgov, adding that the message was obtained by that publication.

In January, AMC started a procurement for up to 18,000 Apple iPad 2s or equivalent tablets to serve as electronic flight bags that store and show navigation charts and technical manuals for aircrews, the story said.

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency's Office of Aeronautical Navigation started developing digital flight charts last summer, according to agency spokesman Kenneth White, the article said.
