Which throwable robot is best suited for the mission?

4 small robots navigate urban setting at Fort Benning

Army infantrymen and engineers steered four small robots around the buildings and grounds at Fort Benning, Ga., in mid-February to see which ones would be most suitable for helping soldiers on the battlefield conduct recon missions and uncover improvised explosive devices, the Army said in a story it published Feb. 22.

The limited objective test for ultra-light reconnaissance robots tested the Dragon Runner 10, Armadillo, 110 First Look and Recon Scout, the story said.

The troops conducting the tests evaluated the throwable robots for their durability, ease of use, weight, range and camera clarity, the story said. Fort Benning's Maneuver Battle Lab will analyze the data compiled during the tests and also assess soldier feedback as part of a thorough post-experiment analysis.
