Navy enlists aid for combat systems upgrades
SAIC tasked with systems analysis and engineering support
Science Applications International Corp. will provide systems analysis and engineering support to the Navy under a five-year follow-on task order valued at more than $49 million.
SAIC will help to introduce new technology into combat systems. The contractor also will provide technical and engineering expertise in support of total ship and combat system engineering, and research and development at the Naval Surface Warfare Center - Dahlgren, where the work will be performed.
NSWC Dahlgren focuses on research and development, testing, and evaluation in the fields of military safety testing, integrated warfare systems, weapons and ammunition, sensors and directed energy, and homeland and force (military personnel and equipment) protection, SAIC officials said.
The agency translates warfighter needs into technical solutions within an operational context by developing and supporting systems, technologies, concepts and tactics that enable military forces to conduct their missions safely and effectively, the officials added.
The task order from the Naval Surface Warfare Center - Dahlgren Division was awarded under the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command SeaPort-e contract.
The San Diego company also won a $55 million contract earlier this month to support the Army's chief information officer.
