Navy gets new networks chief to lead NGEN program office
The Chief of Naval Operations, Adm. Gary Roughead, has named named Rear Adm. John W. Goodwin to lead the Next Generation Enterprise Network Systems program. Currently commander of Naval Air Forces Atlantic, he will lead NGEN as the new assistant chief of Naval Operations for the Next Generation Enterprise Network System Program Office (NGEN SPO).
NGEN SPO brings together all of the activities associated with NGEN -- policy, procurement, resources and requirements, support, operations, and fleet readiness. It combines the existing NGEN, Navy-Marine Corps Intranet (which NGEN will replace), and the OCONUS Navy Enterprise Network program offices into a single command. Goodwin will take command of NGEN SPO early next year; in the interim, Rear Admiral David Simpson, director of Navy networks within the Deputy CNO for Communications Networks (OPNAV N6) office, will lead the SPO.
