BAE Systems delivers networkable night vision goggles to PEO Soldier

BAE delivers networkable night goggle to Army

At a pre-briefing event at BAE's offices in Rosslyn yesterday in advance of next week's Association of the US Army conference, BAE Systems announced it has delivered a prototype digital helmet-mounted night-vision goggle system to the Army's Program Executive Office-Soldier.

The Enhanced Night Vision Goggle, digital (ENVG(D)) was developed for PEO-Soldier's Enhanced Night Vision Goggle advanced technology development program. It combines visible, low light, and infrared imagery. Using a set of sensor fusion algorithms, the helmet-mounted monocle can combine light and IR imagery together at a pixel level.

The display can also be made available for other data, and BAE officials say that it can be networked for transmission of imagery back to a commander or for other purposes. Greg Davis, BAE's Director of Advanced Systems, Infrared Imaging Systems, said that the ENVG(D) could be integrated into the Land Warrior networked soldier system as well as others being developed under PEO-Soldier's direction. When combined with networked soldier systems, the ENVG(D) monocle could double as a display screen for incoming video and data, and send live fused imagery data across the network for others to view.

ENVG(D) is one of the sensor technologies that BAE Systems will have on display at the AUSA conference next week.
