Defense audit agency gets new second-in-command

Anita Bales has been appointed as the new deputy director of the Defense Contract Audit Agency, the Defense Department announced April 7.

Bales worked previously as the deputy auditor general for forces and financial audits at the Army Audit Agency. She has been at the agency since 1992, when she was an audit supervisor.

In an interview last year, Bales said people don’t really want to talk with auditors, and it fell to her to change that attitude.

“I need for them to talk to me so that I can figure out what's wrong and then turn around and make recommendations,” she told Womenetics, a media outlet focused on women professionals.

She will have more of DOD talking to her now, and that department takes a long time to turn around.
