Jacob Lew gets a step closer to OMB

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee today unanimously approved Jacob Lew's nomination to be the director of the Office of Management and Budget.

Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) said Lew is a first-rate government official.

Lew impressed the committee during his confirmation hearing last week and several senators pledged their support for the committee vote and for the full Senate's vote.

The Budget Committee must vote on Lew's nomination in 30 days or it will be sent directly to the full Senate for confirmation.
