Blimp video caught soldier's surrender after Afghanistan massacre

A surveillance camera mounted on a blimp hovering above a combat outpost in Afghanistan captured video of the surrender of a U.S. Army staff sergeant who allegedly murdered 16 Afghan civilians during a shooting spree in Afghanistan, reports Spencer Ackerman at Wired’s Danger Room blog, commenting on a key detail in a Reuters story.

Video from the spy blimp, most likely a tethered aerostat hovering over Combat Outpost Belamby in Afghanistan, was shown to Afghan investigators to prove that a single shooter, and not multiple gunmen, was likely responsible for the incident, the story said.

The video, which shows the soldier walking to the gates and raising his arms to surrender, might contain footage that would allow investigators to piece together the movements of the shooter and timeline of the massacre, the story said.
