Small businesses win CS2-SB contract

The long-anticipated Custom Satellite Communications Solutions-Small Business (CS2-SB) contract, part of the Future Commercial Satellite Communications Services Acquisition (FCSA) program, has been awarded to four small businesses, according to the General Services Administration (GSA) and the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).

The contract winners, who will compete for agency satcom task orders, are AIS Engineering Inc.; By Light, Professional IT Services Inc.; Knight Sky Consulting and Associates LLC, and UltiSat Inc. Each of the awards includes a five-year contract period of three base years with two one-year options and a ceiling of $900 million, the agencies said in a press release.

GSA and DISA teamed on FCSA in 2009 to minimize the growing prices on satellite services for government agencies, as well as to offer “single-point access for the purchase and delivery of mission-critical services with significant savings for taxpayers,” the agencies said.

“FCSA offers the U.S. Government, and particularly the Department of Defense, unparalleled access to the best technologies, the most capable staff, and the agility to economically solve our global communications issues,” said DISA Program Executive Officer for Communications Bruce Bennett.

The first of two indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity satellite services contracts, the CS2-SB precedes the award of its companion CS2 slated for later this quarter, according to the agencies.
