France has offered to furnish the Heron TP unmanned aerial vehicle to NATO for ground surveillance operations in Afghanistan despite technical and financial problems related to the purchase of the Israeli-made UAV that has pushed the deal back to December, reports Defense News.
The Heron TP is a medium-altitude, long-endurance UAV manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). The French contractor Dassault is negotiating with IAI to obtain the Heron TP by the end of 2012 to deliver it to the French government.
One of the key modifications required is a satellite communications link vital to connecting the aircraft to French and NATO networks, the story said.
