Marines take automated logistics to next level
Phase two calls for development and refinement of real time data system
The Office of Naval Research has awarded a contract to Lockheed Martin Corp. to embark on phase two of an automated logistics designed to enhance Marine Corps mission planning and execution.
Under the phase two contract, Lockheed Martin will develop and refine the information architecture prototype intended for the Marine Corps Sense and Respond Logistics program, said company officials in a March 8 announcement. The phase two contract is valued at $2.9 million.
The system works by gathering real-time data from networked sensors on vehicles and other equipment on the battlefield. The information gathered is used to speed up many aspects of planning and assessment and support decision making as they relate to mission planning.
“The Sense and Respond Logistics program will enable commanders to more accurately assess their environment, identify when a plan is executing differently than intended and help develop alternatives ahead of real time,” Tony Seman, ONR program manager, said in the announcement.
Lockheed Martin’s team includes Coordinated Software Systems LLC, Concurrent Technologies Corp. and Viecore FSD.
