Navy shipboard technology evaluation deal awarded

Science Applications International Corp. will assess and evaluate technologies used for Navy shipboard command-and-control systems under a $33.27 million contract.

According to the contract, SAIC will evaluate emerging technologies for navigation, sensors and systems used for shipboard command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems, the Defense Department said Monday.

In addition, the company also will test and evaluate emerging technologies for shipboard position, navigation and timing systems.

The contract, which contains options that could extend the work until 2017, has a potential value of $94.8 million, DOD said. The majority of the work will be done in San Diego.

The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center in Pacific, Calif., is responsible for the procurement.
